John Addison graduated with Honours from the Tasmanian Conservatorium in 1990. Grants from Arts Tasmania and the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Award enabled him to pursue graduate studies in the Netherlands with Herre-Jan Stegenga.
After several years performing with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and I Fiamminghi (Belgium) he began to focus on chamber and ensemble playing.
He has appeared as a soloist, chamber and ensemble musician in festivals including Edinburgh International Festival – UK, Holland Festival - Netherlands, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival - UK, Beijing Modern - China, Dartington International Summer School, UK, Festival d’Automne – France and ISCM World Music Days - Australia, Germany, Hong Kong.
Commercial solo and chamber CD releases feature works by Sophia Gubaidulina, Morton Feldman , Willem Jeths and many other Dutch composers distributed by Mode records, Attacca, Q Disc, Composer’s Voice, In Flanders Field, Telarc and NorthWest Classics.
